Some days you feel anxious.

Some days you feel shut down.

And some days… you feel both.

Your thoughts are racing —
but your energy is low.

Your body feels restless —
but you’re also exhausted.

You might notice:

• Snapping, then going quiet
• Wanting to move, but feeling stuck
• Feeling “on” all day, then suddenly numb

It can feel confusing.

But nothing is wrong with you.

When Your System Moves Between States

Your nervous system doesn’t stay in one mode all day.

Especially under stress.

You might spend hours in activation — focused, alert, bracing — and then reach a point where your system shifts.

Sometimes that shift feels like relief.

Other times it feels like distance.

There’s a difference between coming home from a long day and feeling your body settle — and coming home and feeling numb or disconnected.

Rest feels relieving.

Shutdown can feel hard to return from.

And sometimes, you feel both at once.

That overlap is more common than we think.

A Steady Reset for Mixed Days

When you feel wired and tired at the same time, your system may need rhythm — not intensity.

Try this:

Sit upright with both feet on the floor.

Press your palms together gently.

Inhale slowly for about five seconds as you press.

Then release your hands completely.

Exhale slowly for about five seconds as you soften.

Repeat five times.

Notice the contrast between engagement and release.

You’re not forcing calm.

You’re giving your body something steady.

Mixed days can feel disorienting.

They can make you question yourself.

But shifts between activation and shutdown are common under stress.

Your system is trying to manage what it’s been carrying.

You don’t have to solve the state.

You don’t have to analyze it.

You can offer something steady.

A slow inhale.
A gentle press.
A full release.

Sometimes that’s enough to help your body settle.

With steadiness,
Caroline
