What is EFT and How Does It Work?

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), often called “Tapping,” is a research-supported, body-based method designed to reduce emotional distress and support nervous system regulation.

Clinical EFT integrates elements of cognitive and exposure therapy with gentle acupressure stimulation. Over 100 peer-reviewed studies have examined its effectiveness in addressing stress, anxiety, trauma, phobias, chronic pain, PTSD, and more.

EFT works by tapping on specific acupressure points while bringing mindful attention to a thought, memory, or emotional experience. This combination helps signal the brain’s stress centers — including the amygdala — that it is safe to relax. Over time, this process reduces the intensity of triggers and helps the nervous system respond with greater steadiness.

Research has shown that tapping can lower cortisol (the stress hormone), reduce heart rate, and calm emotional reactivity. Because EFT works with both attention and the body’s energy system, it can access patterns that may feel “stuck,” even when insight alone hasn’t been enough.

As trauma researcher Bessel van der Kolk writes, “The body keeps the score.” EFT offers a structured way to work with the body’s stored stress responses, allowing healing to unfold gradually and safely.

With consistent practice, many people experience increased emotional resilience, clarity, and a deeper sense of internal steadiness.

In addition to Clinical EFT, I also offer Quantum EFT — a structured spiritual extension of tapping that explores patterns across time, including ancestral and soul themes when they naturally arise.

While Clinical EFT remains the research-supported foundation of my work, Quantum EFT may resonate with those who feel drawn to integrating emotional healing with deeper meaning and symbolic exploration.
