Most of us have experienced moments when we find ourselves thinking:
“I’m tired of this.”
Tired of carrying the worry.
Tired of having the same conversations in our head.
Tired of trying to figure things out.
Tired of feeling stuck between where we are and where we want to be.
Sometimes we’re tired of a particular situation.
Sometimes we’re tired of our own thoughts.
Sometimes we’re simply tired of struggling.
But what does that really mean?
What exactly are we tired of?
At first glance, it may seem like we’re exhausted by the challenge itself.
Yet sometimes the exhaustion isn’t coming from the challenge alone.
Sometimes it’s coming from everything we’ve been carrying along with it.
What Is The Pressure Really Saying?
Often we’re carrying more than the original challenge itself.
We’re carrying the pressure surrounding it.
The pressure to figure it out.
The pressure to get it right.
The pressure to heal faster.
The pressure to stop struggling.
The pressure to become the version of ourselves we think we’re supposed to be.
Over time, these pressures can become just as exhausting as the original problem.
Sometimes we’re not only carrying the challenge itself.
We’re carrying the pressure surrounding it as well.
What’s Underneath The Pressure?
When we begin to look beneath that pressure, we often discover that it isn’t random.
In its own way, it’s usually trying to help.
The pressure to improve may be trying to protect us from failure.
The pressure to keep going may be trying to protect us from disappointment.
The pressure to be better may be trying to help us feel accepted, loved, or worthy.
Sometimes we become so accustomed to pushing ourselves that we hardly notice we’re doing it.
We may believe that if we’re hard enough on ourselves, we’ll finally change.
That if we criticize ourselves enough, we’ll finally get it right.
That if we keep striving, we’ll eventually earn the peace we’re looking for.
Yet many of us would never speak to a friend the way we speak to ourselves.
And perhaps that’s worth becoming curious about.
What If You Don’t Have To Earn Your Peace?
Underneath the pressure is often an assumption.
That peace exists somewhere ahead of us.
That confidence exists somewhere ahead of us.
That self-acceptance exists somewhere ahead of us.
Just one more breakthrough.
One more accomplishment.
One more thing to figure out.
Then we’ll finally be okay.
Then we’ll finally be able to rest.
Then we’ll finally feel enough.
Many of us spend years chasing a future version of ourselves who has it all figured out.
The version who no longer struggles.
The version who always knows what to do.
The version who never doubts themselves.
But what if that’s not how it works?
What if some of the exhaustion isn’t coming from the struggle itself?
What if it’s coming from believing we need to be different before we can be at peace?
What if peace isn’t something we earn after we’ve done enough, healed enough, or achieved enough?
What if it’s something we learn to offer ourselves in small moments along the way?
What If You Don’t Have To Carry It All Today?
When we’re tired, our instinct is often to keep going.
To push through.
To hold everything together.
To keep carrying it until it’s resolved.
But what if you didn’t have to carry it all right now?
Not forever.
Not because it doesn’t matter.
And not because you’re giving up.
Simply because you’re human.
Sometimes we need a moment to rest before we continue.
Sometimes we need permission to set something down.
Not everything.
Just something.
A little of the pressure.
A little of the responsibility.
A little of the belief that it’s all up to us.
What if you allowed yourself to take a brief pause from carrying it?
Not because the struggle is gone.
But because you don’t have to hold it every moment of every day.
A Gentle EFT Practice for When You’re Carrying Too Much
Before you begin tapping, take a moment to notice what you’ve been carrying lately.
The worries.
The unfinished conversations.
The things you’re trying to figure out.
The pressure you’ve been placing on yourself.
Imagine a container that feels right to you.
It might be a box, basket, drawer, room, shelf, or something entirely your own.
There is no right choice.
Only one that feels supportive to you.
Place some of what you’ve been carrying into that container.
You don’t need to solve it.
You don’t need to get rid of it.
Simply allow it to rest there for a few moments.
If it feels supportive, you might imagine a trusted guide, loved one, spiritual figure, or source of wisdom watching over it until you’re ready to return.
Take a slow breath.
If you’re new to EFT tapping, gently tap on each point while repeating the phrases below.
Begin by tapping on the side of the hand:
“Even though I’ve been carrying a lot for a long time, it makes sense how tired I feel.”
“Even though part of me feels that I need to hold it all together, I give myself permission to set some of it down for now.”
“Even though I’ve been putting pressure on myself to figure it all out, I choose to offer myself a little compassion.”
Now tap through the points, taking a slow breath at each point:
• “I’ve been carrying so much.” (top of head)
• “I’m tired of holding it all.” (eyebrow point)
• “So much pressure.” (side of eye)
• “Trying to figure everything out.” (under eye)
• “I feel it in my [part of body].” (under nose)
• “Maybe I can set some of it down.” (under chin)
• “And take one thing at a time.” (collarbone point)
• “Maybe I don’t have to carry it all right now.” (under arm)
Take a breath.
Notice what it feels like to put down even a small amount of what you’ve been carrying.
Setting Something Down
You don’t have to figure everything out today.
You don’t have to heal everything today.
You don’t have to become someone else before you deserve kindness.
Sometimes the next step isn’t trying harder.
Sometimes it’s setting something down.
Taking a breath.
And meeting yourself exactly where you are.
With care,
Caroline
